Numbers feel more real when you can weigh them. Put a monkey on one pan, a weighted number on the other, and watch the balance settle. The cards set the challenge; the scale gives the answer without a grown-up having to.
How your child plays with it
- Counting and number sense — Matching monkeys to the weighted numbers 1 to 10 links the symbol to a real quantity.
- Balance and comparison — The scale shows more, less and equal in a way a child can see.
- Self-checking — The balance tells the child whether they are right, so they learn without being told.

How to give it the Montessori way
Begin without the cards: place one number on a pan and let your child add monkeys until it balances. Let the scale, not you, tell them whether it is right.
