A blank felt scene is an invitation to tell a story. The child places a dinosaur, a farm animal or a rocket and decides what happens next. It is quiet, tidy to put away and different every time.
How your child plays with it
- Storytelling — Arranging characters on the board gives the child a reason to talk through a story.
- Language growth — New themes bring new words, such as sea, farm and space.
- Fine motor — Pressing pieces onto the felt and lifting them off strengthens small fingers.

How to give it the Montessori way
Place two or three pieces on the board and tell a very short story, then hand the pieces over and listen. Rotate the pieces you put out so the board feels new.
